Shooting Tips for Youth

Balance – Feet should be shoulder width apart or slightly closer together. Knees should be slightly bent prior to starting the shot. On the shot, the player should jump slightly forward or straight up. The player should not fade to the right or left.

Elbow – The elbow should be in. It should not be to the right or left of the shooting hand and wrist.

Eyes – Eyes should be on the basket. Aim for just past the front of the rim, unless it is a bank shot.

Follow thru – Bend your wrist forward as the ball leaves your fingers. Your wrist should bend as if you are reaching into the cookie jar on the top shelf trying to grab a cookie.
