Basketball Post Moves

The first part of being a good post player is getting open. As a general rule, this means getting between your defender and the basketball. Bend your knees and have your feet wide. This will give you a strong base so the defender cannot move you easily. Put both hands out towards the ball.

There are a variety of post moves you can eventually learn, but let's start with a very basic one. After catching the ball you want to maintain your wide stance and bent knees. Place the ball over one of your shoulders. In this case, let's assume you place the ball over your left shoulder. You will forward pivot to your right and shoot a bank shot. In other words your right foot will stay in the same spot while you bring your left foot around in order to face the basket.
